Local Nonprofit Organizations
Most local nonprofit organizations were affected by the flood. Many suffered flood damage
to facilities and equipment. The flood has also affected the donor base of many local
organizations.
The following are some local nonprofit organizations needing help:
- Grand Forks Senior Citizens Center - 620 4th Ave. South, Grand Forks ND 58201.
The Center provides meals, transportation, and other
services for Grand Forks' senior citizens. Although the Center has completed repairs on their
building, donations have dropped considerably after the flood. The center will need to cut
services soon if they do not raise additional funds, and may have to close. Donations may
be sent to the above address, or more information contact Storme Stennes at (701) 772-7245.
- Grand Forks Mission -
420 Division St. PO Box 6323, Grand Forks ND 58206, (701) 772-6609.
The new kitchen, dining room, and heating system are complete. Work continues on classrooms
and meeting rooms in the basement. However, the Mission still needs $250,000 to complete rebuilding.
Funds are also needed to restart programs interrupted
by the flood, such as addiction treatment and job training.
Grand Forks Mission flood recovery update
- Dakota Science Center - PO Box 5023, Grand Forks ND 58206.
The Dakota Science Center purchased the flood-damaged First Presbyterian Church
building near downtown Grand Forks to establish a science museum. They need funds
to renovate the building.
- Friends of the Greenway - The land between the new dikes will be developed into a recreation
area. This land includes the former Lincoln Drive and Sherlock Park neighborhoods. The Friends
of the Greenway has been organized to assist in development of the Greenway. For more information, visit these web sites:
